The Finnish society is in a transition. Large generations retire and we need a new workforce. As commonly mentioned in public speeches and in company statements, Finland needs international experts. In particular, SMEs can benefit from international expertise, because their own resources are often limited.

Get Global project has been implemented in the period 1 January 2011 to 31 December 2012 by Vaasa University of Applied Sciences. The project has been financed by the Vaasa University of Applied Sciences and the European Union (ESF), issued by the Ostrobothnian Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment. The project's main target group have been the international students and their teachers and counselors. The project targeted in particular SMEs interested in internationalization. The project stakeholder groups have been the companies, business associations and organizations. Indirectly, interest groups were other higher education institutions and related projects with which the results of the project can be shared.

Get Global aimed to build a learning environment between students and companies, which is implemented at the degree programme in International Business at Vaasa University of Applied Sciences. The aim was to develop international business studies to become more practice oriented and to build a bridge for international students into the Finnish working life and culture. Get Global applied entrepreneurial learning methods, for example, learning by doing, practical company cases and flexible learning situations. Students carried out company events and queries as well as internationalization and market analyses for SMEs. On the basis of the results, we have made an action plan of how to carry out practical training and business development activities in the future.
